Seaford 12 3 10 005

Richard Ashworth MEP and Jason Sugarman, the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Seaford, addressed a packed public meeting in Seaford on Friday last week.

Richard, who is deputy leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament, used the opportunity to attack the misleading and warped information put out by UKIP in the Seaford area. A number of senior UKIP members were present, were able to present their arguments and received comprehensive rebuttals from Mr. Ashworth.

(An example would be quoting the cost per head attributed to E.U. membership, without mentioning the amount rebated to the U.K.)

Jason Sugarman expressed his anger at the state to which Gordon Brown had reduced the country, with huge levels of debt and enormous waste of much of the money already borrowed. He also promised that, if elected, he would be a champion for the needs of the area. He pointed to the lack of central funding for flooding (compared to Labour marginals in the North West), the depressed state of Newhaven, both as a port and commercially and the continuing accident toll on the A27 through the constituency. He said that it was totally unsatisfactory that an area the size of Seaford had no 6th form equivalent and that Seaford relied on Brighton or Eastbourne for all but the most basic of health services.

For those interested in the issues raised, there will be another opportunity to see and question Jason in Seaford on Saturday 20th March when he will share a platform with Dan Hannan MEP at the Seaford Baptist Church, Belgrave Road at 11am.
