Lib Dem Town Council Prevent West Beach Opening

The Lib Dem Town Council has been sitting on an offer from the French owners of the West Beach for several weeks. Their delay in replying means that the beach will not be open at Easter, and, unless they act soon, it means that the beach will not be open for the summer. However, the Lib Dems have failed to reply formally to the offer letter made by the French owners of the beach.

 

Jason Sugarman, the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Newhaven said:

“Lib Dems need to deliver results for the people of Newhaven. What are their plans for the beach area? Why can’t it be open in time for the summer? They are not even discussing offers with the French owners of the beach – yet have raised the local council tax by 16%.

With or without the Lib Dems, I want to find a solution so that the beach is open for the summer. The French owners made a reasonable offer in an attempt to help the situation. The Lib Dems have not even had the courtesy to reply to their letter which was sent in January. At present French taxpayers subsidise the ferry by investing 14 million euro’s to keep it going. We need the Town Council to engage properly with those who want to invest in Newhaven’s future.”
