Save Lives On The A27
Jason Sugarman is leading a major campaign to make the A27 safer. The A27 between Lewes and Polegate is one of the country’s most dangerous roads and Jason wants action to save lives.
Figures from the Highways Agency show an alarming difference in the number of deaths and serious injuries on the single carriageway Lewes to Polegate stretch of the A27 compared to the dual carriageway Lewes to Portslade stretch, which is roughly the same length.
Seven times as many people died on the Lewes to Polegate stretch between 2001 and 2007 than on the Lewes to Portslade stretch.
Most of these fatal accidents are concentrated near the village of Selmeston and the government will soon be considering improvements to the existing A27 in this area. Jason says a dual carriageway section is needed.
“When I see the evidence of these statistics it is clear that dual carriageways are much safer,” says Jason. “I think road users and residents along this part of the A27 want the government to produce plans and secure the funding for dualling the A27 near this accident blackspot without delay.”
Support the campaign by signing Jason’s petition.
